This week, I received an email from a reader of my first blogs, Spanish Views and Roamingbrit.com. They have been following my anti-bullying campaign from ten years ago. In my blog, I described my own brush with bullying in 2014/15 and all the implications it entailed. This person was in a particularly bad way, as they battled their own sustained campaign of abuse over a similar period of time.
I often received emails and messages at the height of my own difficulties, from people who quite simply needed someone to talk to. Some weeks I would receive over a hundred communications and other weeks many more. After experiencing one of the most painful episodes in my life, I was aware of the complexities surrounding the words I wrote. There were many others out there, just like me. At a time when I thought I was alone, I discovered I was nothing but. Bullying was real, and it was affecting more individual lives than I ever realised.
Today I receive far fewer messages from victims, but whenever I do, I make sure to reply to everyone. This week's message was deeply personal. Somebody needed help, and I have done my best to reach out in any way I can.
