Meet Luke Martin-Jones

Hi, I’m Luke Martin-Jones, and I’ve spent the past 11 years blogging about life, memory, and the moments that shape us. Under my author name, Darren Light, I’ve published two books: 'Echoes in the Hallway' and 'Out of the Hallway.'

My writing often reflects on growing up in 1970s Britain, a time of change, uncertainty, and discovery, as well as the stigma and silence that came with growing up gay under Section 28. These experiences continue to influence the way I write — honestly, thoughtfully, and with a deep sense of connection to others.

I’m also proud to say I’ve been partnered and married for 30 years, and that long partnership has been one of the great constants in my life. Through this blog, I hope to share reflections that feel personal, but also familiar to anyone who has lived, lost, loved, and kept going.

Luke

Background

Writing

My professional background matters in the blogging world because it brings a level of care, consistency, and authenticity to every piece I write. A blog is not just a collection of posts; it is a space where trust is built through honest storytelling and clear expression. My aim is to create writing that feels thoughtful, engaging, and rooted in real experience.

Upbringing

I was born in 1971, in the small market town of Fareham on the south coast of England. I have been writing since I was a child and continue to express my creativity through my blogging. Despite now living in Western Australia, I still proudly call Fareham home — forever a small-town boy at heart!
